PULAU LANGKAWI MALAYSIA

Langkawi, the largest in a group of some 99 islands, is off the north-west coast of Malaysia, due west of the border between that and Thailand. This island is indeed a beautiful tropical paradise, where blue skies reach down to turquoise seas out to the horizon of the Andaman Ocean. Year round sunshine in this tropical climate, gives a temperature of 24°C to 38°C with a hotter much drier period from November to February. The wetter part of the year being September and October, but always with good sunshine in between showers. Breathtaking sunsets are seen most nights. It has many stunning a white-sand beaches, and even one with black sand, the central mountains rising dramatically are some of the oldest geological features in Asia, all are covered with primary rainforest. Great eagles fly freely over both sea and jungle in which there are many fantastic varieties of other birds, monkeys, a vast range of different trees and flowering plants, many of which are only found on this island. The central lowlands are still mainly used by paddy farmers, with their small villages surrounded by coconut palms and fruit trees. Kuah is the main town, and business centre, with Government offices and Police Headquarters. The airport, some twenty minutes away, is also near the main tourist centre of Pantai(Beach) Cenang and Tengah. A further twenty minutes will take you to Pantai Kok with its new yacht harbour, and another favourite visitor area. Once again some twenty minutes will bring you to the northern shore, two world class hotels, superb beach and access to the famous mangrove forests. Once more only another twenty minutes will take you through beautiful countryside with paddy fields, but backed by jungle clad mountains and picturesque rock formations, past culture centres, and finally back to the town of Kuah. So you will see that with uncrowded roads, you can get to all parts of this island easily and quickly.
Now a satellite picture of the island which goes some way to showing the topography, the jungle coverage and the main areas of interest.....
GENERAL INFORMATION
Accessibility Daily flights by the international carrier MAS to and from the capital Kuala Lumpur, and also nearby Penang, and others such as AirAsia and also SilkAir from Singapore, give this excellent small airport a comprehensive coverage. We were hoping that the direct flight from London to Langakwi would soon be restored, but in the meanwhile others are being contemplated.
Ferries. Air-conditioned ferries from the main town of Kuah to the mainland, ports of either Perlis State, or Kedah State, take only about one hour. Those to Penang some two and a half hours. There is also a ferry to the nearest Thailand port, Saitun which also only takes about one hour. IMMIGRATION.
As you enter the country you will, from most countries in the world, be allowed to stay for three months. This is sufficient for most peoples holidays. However if this time was to be used for looking for your 'holiday home', most investigations that you may want on land or houses will have been accomplished. In order to extend that stay, a visit to Thailand for a few days' rest and recreation will then allow you to come back for a further three months. There are many on this relaxed authority island that have been doing this for many years anyway. On a long-term basis we recommend that people look at the Government's scheme called 'Malaysia My Second Home', which with a certain provisions can provide the main basis of semi-permanency. Income proof and money held in deposit, plus certain medical checks and health insurance will allow them to give you a five year pass with unlimited access. This will be readily extended if needed. Again all advice and help and legal assistance on this can be provided by the correct qualified agent.
