Once upon a time, back in 2003 actually, some friends and I started and had printed a nice magazine for Langkawi. It was called ‘Senses’………….. Thus it was universally known as “Langkawi Senses” After a few ups and downs, teething troubles, we finally settled on a very nice look and style. The printing was excellent and the content then improved under a brilliant and clever editor, and even the pictures were quite good. By this time the whole island and many of the bigger advertisers were keen to get hold of the next copy, and from most quarters, both on the island and from abroad in many countries, we were complimented. However I took on board a local person who I thought was a friend, and who needed help at the time, and whom I felt would be able to make better contact with local advertisers and authorities.
I was warned by many on the island not to trust this person, but foolishly thought that I knew his circumstances and could assist him. They were right, and after a while we found that certain essential tasks had not been carried out, and the company was in financial trouble. So the decision was made to cease doing the magazine. After a great deal of heartache and embarrassment we were able to recover most of the monies we were owed, and paid off ALL of our creditors. Many times since then there have been requests as to when our ‘Senses’ would appear again!!! Of course soon after this a magazine appeared which was a spitting image of our style and type, but technically a much lower quality of print and dare it be said of content. The 'magazine heading' was a straight copy, only substituting other two words for ‘Senses’…..
Well one should be warned, if one comes up with a original idea, it is often copied, usually badly, or destroyed by those who lack any from of originality of their own.
NOW due to ‘numerous requests’ I have put the spirit of good old ‘SENSES” back, but only on-line, so that anybody, anywhere, can access what is hoped to be good and useful information and pictures of Langkawi. One thing to be noted is that the bias of this web site is towards visitors to this island who may just be holidaymakers, tourists, and passers-by, and some who may want to stay here for a lot longer or even make their home here. These are the ‘foreigners’ whom the island is wanting to encourage, be they from the Western side, Europe, of which there are many, or the Eastern side from where many more come in the future. It is being brought to you by someone of similar tastes and interests and background. I HOPE!!! By the way, a website that says “Senses of Langkawi” and quotes “the only printed magazine of Langkawi” which it is NOT,and is another story best left untold in its complication. It is only a non-updated web search 'quote' and does not give you our real printed 'Senses', or any magazine but is a general and cross-connected site of others who were at the time involved… ARCHIVE of 'Langkawi Senses' the only printed magazine at the time.....!!! SO just for the record I will make a small archive of what the last few good old printed “Senses’ used to look like, (just because I took most of the pictures), and some of the content which still may be of general interest to all and sundry, will be extracted, and used in this Langkawisenses web-site... That magazine when it was still active was carried by the National Carrier MAS on its direct flight to Langkawi, and was also used extensively in London. It was distributed freely across the island, and happily carried by most of the taxis, especially from the airport. Many of the magazines were kept in hand and returned with the reader to countries far and wide. The one for the ATF here on Langakwi was given to delegates from all countries and The Minister of Tourism himself was very pleased with the impact of the magazine.... It was used on a number of occasions when delegates from here went to conferences on Tourism in other countries..
