Langkawi Senses

Langkawi  golf courses.

If you are thinking of a dream golf vacation where you can bask in the sun and enjoy the splendour of the natural surroundings you'll find it all here in Langkawi .
There are international calibre greens that a worth the time they effort will have were warned just for their scenery and culture.

The Golf Club Datai Bay.

The Golf Club Datai Bay is a public course situated on the north-west part of the island of Langkawi. Here, golfers can enjoy the unique experience of playing on an international golf course that is both scenic and challenging.

Surrounded by tropical rainforest, majestic mountains and the shimmering and deep blue Andaman Sea, and it teeming with wildlife, it is one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world there. A must see for every golfer.

Completed in November 1997, the golf club provides all the comfort of a top-class golf club including locker rooms, a pro shop and restaurant, plus full buggies facilities. Sadly, the buggies are rarely allowed on the fairways.

The beautifully laid out and well maintained course is almost 6000 meters long. Its fairways use the finest Bermuda grass and a slick greens, which are carpeted with Tifdwarf grass, a real test of your packing skills. The course undulates in all directions and the long, narrow fairways are frequently lined with impenetrable jungle. A lost ball here is truly lost.

The first hole, a 364 mtr par-4, is a really beautiful hole, but the lilly covered at a lake located right in front of the tee, can be daunting to the less experienced golfer. The most difficult hole is quite rightly there par-5 8th with two broad streams crossing of their way and a green well guarded by bunkers. For me, however, the loveliest hole is the 15th at a short par-3 virtually surrounded by jungle with apparent even dominating the scene was small pond at the front and the bunker at at the back provide more subtle traps for the unwary. Finally if you feel up to it this the 19th hole with semi-island green that extends into the Andaman sea. This spectacular hole as a carry of some 160 metres over the sea, rocky shore and a bunker, a memorable hole and the memorable round of golf.

Langkawi  Golf Club.

At the moment this is under a huge rebuilding plan.

We understand that it will eventaully be two 18 holes courses, it is being designed by Ernie Els and will be of International standard and should attract a great deal of interest.

There will also be a new club and many other facilities.
As soon as I am given the details I will include them here.

Gunung Raya Golf Resort

Opened in 1998, Gunung Raya Golf Resort is Langkawi's newest golf course.
Situated at the foot of the mount Gunung Raya, the golf course is only 10 minutes drive from Kuah town. Its 18 holes provide the ideal mixture of easy and challenging holes. Here, every golfer can achieve a respectable score.
The well-maintained, 6,377-metre course has wide, undulating fairways carpeted with Zoysia Matrella grass, ending at superb greens which are turfed with Tifdwarf Bermuda. In a few more years, when the young trees have grown to maturity they will surely present an additional challenge.
Like the other two featured courses on Langkawi, there is an abundance of wildlife to be seen.
The cackling of Hornbills is a common sound.  Langkawi's Brahminy Kite can frequently be seen diving into the numerous lakes and ponds scattered throughout the course.
The golf course offers beautiful views, from the imposing mountains to the coastal mangroves and rocky ridges that line the coast.
This wide open feeling is immediately apparent when you stand on the 1st tee of this "garden" golf-course, designed by Max Wexler.
The first 9 holes can be quite forgiving. Don't be fooled though, the lakes, ponds and large tracts of jungle can act like a magnet to the golf ball.
This is especially true of the 13th, 14th and 15th which many golfers consider to be the most difficult holes on the course.

Facilities include an open driving range, pro-shop, Club House Cafe and changing rooms. Buggies are essential and these are plentiful, electrically-driven and reliable.
